These images are part of a story that I was working on as I processed a period of great change in my life. The captions beside each picture give details about the specific images. I have written about the genesis of this idea in my blog, which is accessible through my Home Page.
I made several different versions of this flyer as small handouts that were 1/4 sheet sized. The flyer has Kyaputen Maberu in the center and some characters from his story in the two sidebars. I had been studying Samurai and Samurai armor pretty exensively at this time, so I made sure to put a lot of detail into my drawings. For me, the armor was probably the most interesting part, so I focused on
This is Kyaputen Maberu. He's a classic 1-dimensional hero archetype-- "Save the girl, defeat the bad guys, etc." I completed much of his armor in real life, but it has fallen into disrepair over the years. I do still have it though.
This image depicts the meeting of Kyaputen Maberu and his future wife Elysius. She tells Maberu about Shinigami who stole the Pearl of Wisdom from her castle. Maberu vows to find him and retrieve the pearl.
Along the way, Kyaputen Maberu confronts many yokai on the road to Shinigami's castle. They agree to join him in his fight.
Kyaputen and Supaidaman view their destination; the maze-like castle of Shinigami himself!
Shinigami has many lieutenants wandering the halls of his castle.
